Are my hormones low?

The answer is most likely yes! A third to a half of men over the age of 35 have low levels of the male hormone testosterone. To know is this applies to you, read the following and if you can relate to any of the issues you should be tested to see if your hormones are low or imbalanced. If any of these apply to you then there is a good chance your hormones are either low or imbalanced. This can be accomplished by a simple series of blood tests Dr Bellman has created for optimizing men's health.

The Biology

In men the brain, specifically the hypothalamus and pituitary send messages to the testicles (via a hormone called LH -luteinizing hormone) to make testosterone (as well as sperm). When we are 18 years old our testosterone levels are optimal, our erections, energy and endurance are boundless as well as our ability to produce muscles and bone.


With age the body simply doesn't produce enough hormone is many men.It is unclear if it is because the messages from the brain are insufficient or if the testicle simply don't produce enough. In addition, as men age there are factors which bind up men's testosterone and make it unavailable or useless and one of those factors is the female hormone estradiol (similar to estrogen).Too much estradiol can not only lead to gynecomastia (breast enlargement) but compete and render testosterone inactive. Men feel the best when their testosterone is high and estradiol is low. Some men are found to have low testosterone, some high estradiol and many both. The only way to know for sure is have your self tested. Some doctors will check your testosterone alone which is insufficient. A thorough testing of all your hormones are necessary to help direct a program towards optimal health.
