Testosterone and Estrogen
Posted By: Dr. Gary Bellman on October 7, 2012
Many men are surprised to learn they have estrogen or estradiol a ‘female’ hormone. This is true; men have both testosterone and estradiol in varying amounts. Men feel and perform best when their testosterone is high and estradiol is low. When the testosterone is low and estradiol high, one’s hormones are not balanced.
Testosterone replacement can drive up the estradiol and can result in a man feeling somewhat emotional or have sensitivity of the breasts. The remedy is a simple pill called Arimidex or Anastrazole, which prevents the rise in the estradiol.
This same pill has been used for women with breast cancer but can be safely used in men on testosterone replacement to keep the estradiol low.
