Prolactin is a very important hormone both for men/women and is often overlooked. It can be produced in lactating women but also by brain tumors. If a man has low testosterone, a prolactinoma (a brain tumor) can be the cause. To diagnose that, a blood test and possibly a pituitary MRI is necessary.
Excess prolactin in men can suppress or decrease a man’s testosterone and the remedy often is decreasing the prolactin.
This is an interesting article on prolactin in women.
